Heidi
Davison is no stranger to the rich tradition of community
activism in Athens. From education to the environment, Heidi
has been active in a wide range of issues that affect the
citizens of Athens. As a long-time resident of Athens-Clarke
County, educator, and community volunteer, she has experienced
first-hand the need for local government to actively seek
the participation of all of its citizens.
A graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.S.Ed in Elementary
Education and M.Ed in Middle School Education, Heidi taught
Language Arts for Social Circle City Schools and the Oconee
County School System. During her tenure, she worked on several
textbook selection committees, was chair of a School of Excellence
committee, working to develop the winning proposal for her
school and served on the local steering committee developing
a 10-year review of the Oconee County Schools for SACS. She
also developed a school-wide reading for pleasure program
and curriculum for middle school students.
In 1990, Heidi graduated from the Leadership Athens program.
She continued to serve that program as a volunteer for several
years following graduation and served as its director from
1996 to 2001, overseeing all aspects of the organization.
She worked on developing a senior leadership program for the
Athens Community Council on Aging, which recently graduated
its second class.
Heidi is trained as a National Issues Forum moderator, a Technology
of Participation (TOP) and Community Trusteeship facilitator.
In 1996 she was tapped along with 18 other women to serve
as a facilitator for the League of Women Voters of the United
States' long-range planning efforts.
Heidi formerly served as a Leadership Development Associate
with the University of Georgia's J.W. Fanning Institute for
Leadership. She is currently affiliated with the Institute
as an Adjunct Faculty member. Her responsibilities included
delivering the Understanding Leadership module of the Community
Leadership Practices (CLP) curriculum, leadership program
development, retreat facilitation, instructor training, curriculum
modification and working with new and existing leadership
programs to provide technical support.
Heidi continues to be active in community work. She currently
serves on the Alec Little Environmental Award Advisory Committee
and the Clute Barrow Nelson Life Foundation, and is an active
member of the Jeannette Rankin Foundation. Recent volunteer service includes serving
on the SPLOST Citizen's Overview Committee and the Solid Waste
Advisory Committee, as well as President of the Lyndon House
Arts Foundation, Inc.
Heidi and her husband of 26 years, Al, live in the Beechwood
Hills subdivision.
