Davison Welcomes Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin’s Endorsement

Athens, Ga – August, 31, 2006 -- Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin has officially endorsed Heidi Davison’s re-election bid for Athens-Clarke County mayor.
“Heidi Davison has shown leadership, commitment and vision as mayor,” noted Franklin. “Under her watch, Athens has become a community of strong and healthy neighborhoods. Along with being an effective mayor for the people of Athens, Mayor Davison is recognized across the state for bringing diverse groups to the table to find solutions to complex challenges.”
Added Franklin, “I look forward to continuing my working relationship with Mayor Davison on developing shared solutions to issues such as transportation, clean air and water, homelessness and poverty that impact not only Athens and Atlanta but our entire state. Strong, healthy cities are paramount to a strong Georgia. “
Davison welcomed the Atlanta mayor’s endorsement, stating "I am honored to have the support of Shirley Franklin. I have great admiration for her success in bringing to Atlanta both fiscal accountability and innovative new ideas for addressing the city’s growth challenges.”
Shirley Franklin took office in 2002 and is currently serving her second term as mayor of Atlanta. Last year she was named among America’s “Five Best Big-City Mayors” by Time magazine. In June of this year Franklin began her term as President of the Georgia Municipal Association.
